Gulf Coast Fishermen

Today as I was getting ready for work.  I was listening to the news and they were reporting that a lot of the fishermen in the Gulf Coast are having a hard time, because no very many people are buying shrimp. The fear is that because of the oil spill the shrimp are not good. The Federal Government has declared that the shrimp are not contaminated.

Here is an interesting article that will help you understand how the Gulf Coast residents are doing.

In the article most of the fishermen were working as a contractor for BP to help clean up the spill and were making anywhere from $10.00 to $12.00 an hour.  Both BP and the residents have benefited from the spill. What this has done is crated jobs and also put Venice on the map.

When the spill happened BP stock dropped  to 27.50 a share today it is trading at $40.96.

Now I want to know what your thoughts are on the spill.  Would you buy the shrimp in the Gulf Coast?

I live in Florida and I love all seafood as much as anybody. Sadly, I won’t eat anything from the Gulf for a long while. :(
    1. The last two times we went to the beach my little boy broke out in sores that took a month to heal- I don’t see how seafood can be safe. We’re staying off the beach too :(
    2. I’ve heard too many stories and I’ll take the word of the fishermen over any agency.
    3. Let the Gulf heal!!! The fish, shrimp, oysters, crab etc. that survived the oil should be left alone so they can [hopefully] reproduce.
    4. I wouldn’t buy beef from a rancher who said his cattle ‘may be’ sick.
